Saint Lucia was a young, rich in Syracuse and lived around the third and fourth centuries. La festa di Santa Lucia apre ufficialmente le festività natalizie e in codesto giorno prendeva il via una vecchia tradizione molfettese: la cosidetta "Santa Allegrezza" ovvero la tradizione di eseguire i canti tipici natalizi. Il repertorio era composto dai canti in dialetto molfettese quali "Nonne Nonne", "La notte du Netale" e da altri canti tipici quali "Mezzanotte", "Jingle Bells", ecc.
